Non-Prog Death

"Some albums require a lot of listens, while others click immediately.

In my case, Brutally Deceased's debut album belongs to the second category. I think that this is primarily due to the raw energy and brutality of the music, because it is not overly technical or sophisticated in anyway, and the production is very muddy and sloppy. But the music itself is just awesome.

Brutally Deceased's style is very similar to that of the old Swedish death metal acts from the early 90s before melodeath (I mean, they even named themselves after an old Grave song). This means evil, primitive, brutal and raw death metal with elements from thrash metal and hardcore punk with muddy downtuned guitars and a fittingly "bad" production to boot. The music is primitive, but not simple, as there are a lot of changes and complex riffage (true to the death metal genre), and there are also more blastbeats than found in the old school style of death metal.

I think that everything works extremely well on this album, and the unpolished and raw production fits the brutality and pure energy of the music. The only point of criticism I have is that the growled vocals are a bit too monotonous for my taste.

Recommended to fans of old school death metal!
