"Burning Caskets debut release "To Burn a False Prophet" is a tour de force in good old fashioned death metal like it sounded in the early 1990s, but with an up-to-date production and more precision.
The style is primarily mid-paced old school death metal with machine-gun bass drums and chrushing and groovy riffage, a lot of which draws on the thrash metal roots of death metal. There are, of course, some heavier passages, too, and a track like "Covenant of Hate" is actually pretty heavy all the way through. While there are no ultra-fast blast beats, the last three original tracks on the album do contain some brutal death metal blasting akin to that of early Suffocation.
All the tracks are pretty good, and I like how the band can make mid-paced old school death metal sound as brutal as it does on this release. The only track that I am not too thrilled about is the cover version of Megadeth's "Wake Up Dead" - which, to be sure, is a very difficult track to cover because of its complete uniqueness.
If you like your death metal mid-paced and heavy with crushing riffage and solid performance all the way though, then check out this release - recommended to fans of Bolt Thrower, Morta Skuld, Suffocation and the like.
