The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium 2003
A milestone in modern prog. Accessible in some aspects, yet rather unaccessible in others (the vocals, the obscure lyrics, the noodling tendencies). Virtually essential to any modern prog collection, however, since this album will be known in years to come as a milestone in the 21st century prog revival. Comment by GhostRider 15 years ago
The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium 2003
This is one of the most important albums of the new century, and the blueprint for modern prog. Though the vocals can be an acquired taste, they are absolutely perfect for the band's sound and style. Guitarist and mastermind Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is ineed set to become the new Robert Fripp. Comment by rushfan4 15 years ago
The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath 2008
I'm hoping that eventually The Mars Volta will click with me, but I have now listened to all of their albums and really haven't found all that much that I like about them. It is a shame because they are recommended to fans of Rush, which I am. Hopefully, it is a grower and one day I will fondly look back on the days when I didn't like these albums, before they became one of my favorites, but for now, yuck! Comment by Mandrakeroot
The Mars Volta - Amputechture 2006
I don't love this album. Yet I recognize that "Amputechture" is very popular for the precedent reviewers. For me is a sort of Neo Modern Spanish Prog Metal, also very minimalistic. And I can not understand the meaning of "Amputechture".
The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute 2005
I like this album a lot ... but I must admit that I normally cannot stand listening to it in one setting, as there is simply a bit too much going on, and it's a bit like "complexity for the sake of complexity". But it is all very well done, they tried very hard to make this a good album, and they succeeded. So if you're into musical roller-coaster rides and don't mind experimental and unusual music with alternative roots, then this is for you.
