Opeth - Still Life 1999
This is the album that opened a whole new world to me. I loved prog metal, but hated growled vocals, and this was what got me interested in them. The music is excellent, and has great changes between death metal and acoustic elements. This really is an essential album for any prog fan, whether you think you like death metal vocals or not. Steve Hackett - Till We Have Faces 1984
This really is awful. Steve Hackett released a few stinkers in his career, but this has to be the worst. Not much that makes it prog, but more so annoying music. Only for completionists. Comment by J-Man 12 years ago
Genesis - Trespass 1970
This was the second album from Genesis, and the last with guitarist Anthony Phillips. This really is an underrated gem with some great Genesis moments. The production isn't very good, but for 1970 it isn't horrible, and the excellent music makes up for it. Comment by J-Man 12 years ago
Dream Theater - Images and Words 1992
This is often regarded as one of Dream Theater's greatest albums. While I do love it, I would recommend Scenes From a Memory first. However, Learning to Live is a classic epic, and this is one of the first great prog metal albums. Highly Recommended! Comment by J-Man 12 years ago
Genesis - Foxtrot 1972
This really is one of the greatest progressive rock albums of all time. By this time, Genesis had just begun to perfect their formula, and create such a masterpiece that would never be topped by them again. Highly recommended to any symphonic prog fan! |
