Spock's Beard - The Kindness Of Strangers 1998
9.2
Symphonic Prog Rock
SB's third album is really great, and has some classic songs by the Beard. Harm's Way and Flow are the highlights, and every song is really good here. While it isn't without flaws, it doesn't have a bad track on it.

Spock's Beard - Spock's Beard 2006
7.8
Symphonic Prog Rock
The best album so far after Neal's departure! A good album with many memorable moments, and some great musicianship. There are a few minutes of filler, but this is still a great album for anyone looking for a post-Neal Morse SB album.

Spock's Beard - The Light 1994
9.0
Symphonic Prog Rock
This is an excellent debut album from Spock's Beard, and really shows what a great band they are. The FU section in The Water may offend some, but this is a great album that I recommend to anyone.

Spock's Beard - Feel Euphoria 2003
6.5
Symphonic Prog Rock
The first album after the departure of Neal Morse clearly shows they are hurting, but they pull off a decent album with a few memorable moments. Not the place to start listening to the Beard, but it is worth a listen.

Spock's Beard - V 2000
9.7
Symphonic Prog Rock
This is often regarded as Spock's Beard's magnum opus, and I definitely think this is a great album. The opening and closing epics are masterpieces, and everything inbetween is great too. Highly recommended!

Spock's Beard - Snow 2002
10.0
Symphonic Neo Prog Rock
This is one of the greatest double concept albums ever, and I would actually rate this masterpiece above The Lamb, Tales From Topographic Oceans, and other classic double albums. A perfect 10 without a doubt, and will forever be one of the greatest albums ever released.

Mastodon - Crack the Skye 2009

Prog Sludge Metal
This is a great album for any prog metal fan. There really isn't a weak song on here. One of the best of 2009!

Yes - Close to the Edge 1972
9.7
Symphonic Prog Rock
This is my favorite Yes album, and it is essential listening for any prog fan. I don't know any prog fan that doesn't have this, but if you don't, you must get it. Three songs of pure greatness.

Opeth - Morningrise 1996
8.8
Prog Extreme Metal
I might go so far as to say this is one of Opeth's most progressive albums to date. Every song exceeds ten minutes, and the closer is a growl free opus that needs to be listened to. The Night And The Silent Water is one of my top prog metal songs ever released. The 20 minute epic Black Rose Immortal isn't a great epic, but it still is worth listening to. This isn't a great introduction to non-death metal fans, but for everyone else, this is a great album.

Dream Theater - Train of Thought 2003
7.9
Prog-Related Metal
The is Dream Theater's least progressive effort, and is mostly focused on heavy riffing more so than progressive metal that popularized them. They make excellent metal, but it won't appeal to more traditional prog fans.

Opeth - Damnation 2003
7.7
Psychedelic Prog Rock
This is known as Opeth's growl free album, and it doesn't disappoint. One of the things that made me love Opeth was the excellent contrasts between death metal and mellow sections. It doesn't contain any of these contrasts, and prog metal fans may feel left in the dust. The music is very mellow, and occasionally gets boring, but never for too long. I recommend this only to people opposed to death metal growls. Everyone should get it at some point, but prog metal fans should start with other releases.

Kevin Gilbert - The Shaming of the True 2000
10.0
Prog Rock/Pop
This is one of the few perfect albums out there in this world. It's a concept album dealing with the record industry, with an incredible story, great music, and unbeatable singing, this must be a perfect 10. It's a shame Kevin Gilbert was taken away from us far too soon.

Pain of Salvation - Entropia 1997
8.3
Prog Metal
This is an excellent debut from Pain of Salvation. While I don't consider it one of their masterpieces, it's still a great album that deserves a spot in every prog metal fan's collection.

Neal Morse - ? 2005
9.8
Symphonic Prog Rock
This is on of my favorite Neal Morse albums, and since he is one of my favorite songwriters, that is really saying something. This flows like one epic song rather than 12 separate ones, and is an exceptional concept piece. A true masterpiece by a musical genius!

Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane 2002
9.8
Prog Metal
This is often overshadowed by their previous effort, The Perfect Element, but this is still a masterpiece that is almost as good. It has excellent playing and songwriting, along with a special feel only Pain of Salvation can create. Highly Recommended!

Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element Part 1 2000
10.0
Eclectic Prog Metal
This is one of the greatest prog metal albums, and is Painof Salvation's pinnacle. Words cannot describe the incredible variety of moods in this album, and it can only be told by listening to it. A highly recommended album!

Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings 2009
9.5
Prog Metal
Dream Theater's 2009 effort certainly doesn't disappoint. It mends some of their heaviest music with some great Rush influences and traces back to their early days. There isn't a bad song here, and this is one of the best 2009 albums.

Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory 1999
10.0
Prog Metal
This truly is the greatest album of all time. A concept album with a variety of moods, perfect execution, and not a single flaw on the entire album. This will probably be the only 10 I give out on this site, and with good reason. A perfect album by one of my favorite bands.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Grand Opening and Closing! 2001
4.0
Avant-Garde Prog Rock in Opposition
This really divides progressive rock fans. I don't typically like this type of music, but this doesn't try to reach out to newcomers to the genre in any way. Therefore, only avant prog fans will this appeal to. There are some good songs, but the singing is horibble and the lyrics match it. Only for fans of the genre.
