About Me
First and foremost I am a long time music fan with Rush having been my favorite band for almost 20 years now, followed closely by Yes.  Progressive rock tends to be the dominant style of music that I listen to, however, I am a fan of much classic rock and more straightforward rock bands and artists as well.  I suppose that I am a prog fan trapped in a pop fan's mind.  I am also a long time fan of metal but I have my limits and I am quite adverse to extreme metal and extreme metal vocals.  My musical achilles heel seems to be the heavy metal pop ballad, which I have always had a soft spot in my ear for, no matter how cheesy.  My ability to rate music is quite limited, however, I do give it the old college try and hopefully there is some sort of pattern or consistency that can be found amongst my reviews.

Rush - All The World's A Stage 1976, Live
8.5
Technical Prog Hard Rock
The first live album from the greatest band on the World's stage. Thus ends phase 1 of their career and the beginning of a pattern of 4 albums per phase followed by a live album. This is their first official live album, but I do have the pleasure of owning a couple of bootlegs that precede this fine release.

Rush - Caress Of Steel 1975
8.8
Heavy Prog Hard Rock
Album number three from the greatest band to grace these ears. Whilst their first two albums were very good, Caress of Steel is their first excellent album, and yet it still only foreshadows what is yet to come.

Rush - Fly By Night 1975
8.0
Heavy Prog Hard Rock
Album number two from the greatest band on Earth. Neil Peart is now in the fold, and there is a slight shift towards becoming a prog band, but still for the most part this is a good hard rock album. Not quite the "Best I Can" yet, but those are on their way.

Rush - Rush 1974
8.0
Heavy Prog-Related Hard Rock
The debut album by the greatest band in the world. This album is the only Rush album to not have Neil Peart on drums, but John Rutsey does an admirable job in the drum seat. When songs from this album were first played on the radio, they were mistaken as new Led Zeppelin songs, which is quite a compliment given the greatness of the Zep. I don't listen to this album as often as their others, but it is always a fun album to listen to.

Ray Wilson - Change 2003
7.6
Non-Prog Rock
Solo album by Stiltskin vocalist, better known as Phil Collins replacement in Genesis. Mostly mellow singer-songwriter songs that you might hear on an easy listening radio station.

Queen - Stone Cold Classics 2006, Best Of
7.8
Prog-Related Album Oriented Rock
Just another Queen compilation album. Good collection of songs, but only reason to purchase is if you are a newbie to Queen or a collector of all things Queen. Includes two bonus live songs featuring Paul Rodgers which at least provides something different than what you might find elsewhere.

No growls makes my ears much happier. This is a magnificent album.

Opeth - The Roundhouse Tapes 2007, Live
7.0
Prog Extreme Metal
Songs sound even worse live than recorded. Probably pretty good if you can handle the vocal growls, but I can't. Thought I would try it to see if it sounded any better, but it doesn't.

Rush - Feedback 2004, EP
9.0
Heavy Retro Non-Prog Rock
This is an EP of covers that Rush put together so that they would have "new" material to play during their 30th anniversary tour. I absolutely love this EP. These are fun songs to listen to and to hear Rush's interpretation of. Unlike many, I tend to like cover songs and hearing a band apply their style to well-known music. And of course, I am a huge Rush fan, although there are many huge Rush fans who don't like this covers album. For Prog Archives website users, as much as I like this EP, I will probably only give it 2 stars since it really is for Fans/Collectors only.

GTR - GTR 1986
7.6
Prog-Related Rock
Steve Hackett from Genesis meets Steve Howe from Yes. I enjoy this more than most seem to. Not as progressive as one might hope coming from two of the elite prog guitarists, but then again Genesis and Yes were both quite poppish even in their proggiest days.

Tiles - Window Dressing 2004

Heavy Prog Rock
Magnificent album from Rush-type band produced by former Rush producer Terry Brown. 2nd disc is a bonus disc containing a live bootleg for the Dream Theater support tour.

Triumph - Classics 1989, Best Of

A greatest hits package from the other rock band trio from Canada. This has a nice selection of both prog and nonprog songs.

Triumph - Progressions of Power 1980
8.2
Prog-Related Metal
The Other Canadian Trio with both progression and power in the album title provide for a less progressive album than their previous releases but still a good listen. Alternating vocals between guitarist Rik Emmett and drummer Gil Moore.

Triumph - In The Beginning... 1995
7.8
Prog-Related Metal
This is a re-issue of their debut self-titled album. This is the beginning of the development of their sound which is a mix of heavy metal with some progressiveness.

Collage - Changes 1995
8.3
Prog Rock
Musically this album is very good. It is a compilation from songs from the earlier portion of their career. This band is a precursor to the band Satellite. On some songs the lyrics are sung in Polish and sound fine, but are a bit of a letdown for me since I don't know the language.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Then And Now 1998, Live
8.0
Prog Rock
My version of the album is called Pomp and Ceremony Live, but it is the exact same playlist as Then and Now, and Then and Now is what is called up on iTunes so I think it is the same album.

Transatlantic - Bridge Across Forever 2001
10.0
Symphonic Prog Rock
I absolutely love Transatlantic. This band is one of the ultimate supergroups with Neal Morse from Spock's Beard, Roine Stolt from The Flower Kings, Pete Trewavas from Marillion, and Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater. I was led to this album because I was a Spock's Beard and Dream Theater fan. It was because of this album that I discovered the Flower Kings and Marillion. All 5 of these bands (including Transatlantic) are some of favorites over the past 5 years.
