About Me
I'm in college at Penn State, currently a General Sciences major.  I play bass guitar, trombone, a bit of upright bass, and tiny bits of other instruments.  My favorite sub-genres of Prog are Zeuhl, Krautrock, RIO/Avant and the Canterbury Scene.

Franco Battiato - Sulle corde di Aries 1973
9.5
Experimental Prog Rock/Electronic
So far it's love on first and second listen - reminds me more of a Krautrock/Prog Electronic album than anything, it's barely got any hints of symphonic.

Gryphon - Crossing the Styles - The Transatlantic Anthology 2004, Best Of
7.5
Biggest problem - album tracks aren't together.

Klaus Schulze - X 1978
7.5
Rating would be higher, but the album could have been shorter IMO.

Magma - Mythes Et Légendes, Volume II (DVD) 2006, DVD
9.5
Prog Zeuhl
Definitely sparked my interest in getting more of the DVDs of the series, an excellent concert.

Very relaxing instrumental album, definitely recommended.

Recommended after the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy and other classic titles.

Dün - Eros 1981
9.4
Avant-Garde Prog Zeuhl
My first Zeuhl album, and a very good one. Probably one of the best entry points into the genre.

Magma - Retrospektïw I-II (disc 1) 1981, Live
9.4
Prog Zeuhl
My second favorite live Magma album (so far). Both pieces are brilliantly played, with this version of MDK being my favorite recorded that I've heard.

Magma - Live/Hhaï (Köhntark) 1975, Live
9.0
Prog Zeuhl
For me, the live album against which all others are measured. It's the closest thing to a perfect live album I've heard.

Can - Tago Mago 1971
9.8
Prog Krautrock
In my opinion, THE Krautrock album. Tough to beat in any genre, really.

The Soft Machine - The Soft Machine 1968
9.3
Psychedelic Prog Canterbury
First in a string of 3 amazing albums by the Soft Machine, which were followed by some very good ones.

The Soft Machine - Volume Two 1969
9.7
Psychedelic Prog Canterbury
One of my favorite albums. Nearly everything is perfect about it, in my opinion.

Frank ZappaListen - Jazz From Hell 1986
7.0
Experimental Prog Rock
I can see a lot of listeners not enjoying the majority of this album. It's definitely a very hard one to get into, and nowhere near the genius of Uncle Frank's best works.

Frank ZappaListen - Uncle Meat 1969
9.0
Avant-Garde Prog Rock
It's got some filler vocal bits in it, but some amazing works of music too. The film extracts don't do anything for me, but other than that I'd say it's an essential release.

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue 1959
9.6
Non-Prog Jazz
One of the most influential and well-known jazz recordings for a reason...it's incredible, only rivaled in non-prog jazz by Time Out.

Weather Report - Black Market 1976
9.0
Prog-Related Fusion
Better album than Heavy Weather, in my opinion. While Heavy Weather has more Jaco, it also has more smooth jazz sounding tracks. Still has a bit of prog influence I think, which is mostly absent on Heavy Weather.

Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius 1976
9.0
Non-Prog Jazz
Basically essential for any bassist to hear at least a few times, it will likely hook you in. Not the best overall representation of Jaco's ability, but it's a strong release.

King CrimsonListen - Discipline 1981
9.6
Technical Prog Rock
My first (and still favorite) King Crimson album. It shows they were still moving ahead in the 80s.

Magma - Üdü Wüdü 1976
7.0
Prog Zeuhl
While most of the album is simply very good, De Futura is excellent. The band brings in elements of world music to their otherworldly style on some tracks, which would be seen again on Attahk.

Magma - Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh 1973
9.5
Free Form Prog Zeuhl
One of the most important albums in the entire Zeuhl genre. While Magma's earlier albums showed a bit of the style which was to become prevalent on this album, this is where it all really came together to create the new musical entity we know and love (or loathe, in some people's cases).
