This is a great album for any prog metal fan. There really isn't a weak song on here. One of the best of 2009!

A modern classic - Mastodon's highest peak. Something between the 70's Prog-Rock, Prog Metal & Stoner Rock, and yet very modern, relevant & innovative. You can find here riffs a-la Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd's influence, and it's still very Mastodon-ish album. Psychedelic, challenging, deep... And in the bottom line - it's a great album.

This whole album is probably best described as a flurry of crazy riffs - fortunately most of them are really cool! And there are plenty of crazy time signature parts, which I, of course, like immensely.

This is the first Mastodon album that I get to listen to in full length - and I really like it. Usually I find (Post) Sludge Metal interesting musically, but the vocals put me off. Fortunately it is just one of many influences here, and I'd say it's more like a Post Doom/Independent/EMO album, with a heavy dose of Thrash thrown in. There is much experimentation going on, and they're never calculable.

Mainstream listeners might have a hard time digesting this very dense and inaccessible opus, metal-friendly prog fans will find it a very worthwhile listen.
